Introduction
Welcome to FocusGuard. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.
This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our
Chrome extension and website.
Information We Collect
1. Email Address
We collect your email address when you:
- Start a free trial: Required to activate your 14-day trial period
- Purchase a subscription: For license delivery and account management
- Join a team: To verify team membership and provide access
Your email is used for account identification, license delivery, subscription management,
and important product updates (you can opt out of marketing emails).
2. Device Fingerprint
To prevent trial abuse and ensure fair usage, we generate a unique device fingerprint using:
- Browser Information: User agent string, language settings, timezone
- Screen Properties: Screen resolution and color depth
- Hardware Characteristics: Number of CPU cores, available memory
- Platform Information: Operating system and browser platform
How it works: These attributes are combined and hashed using SHA-256 to create
an anonymous identifier. We cannot reverse this hash to identify you personally.
The fingerprint is used solely to:
- Prevent multiple trial activations from the same device
- Detect fraudulent license sharing
- Protect paying customers from abuse
Important: Device fingerprinting is industry-standard for preventing abuse.
We do not use it for advertising, tracking across websites, or building behavioral profiles.
3. Google Calendar Data
When you connect your Google Calendar to FocusGuard, we access:
- Event Titles: To display in the extension popup
- Event Start/End Times: To schedule focus sessions automatically
- Event Descriptions: Optional, only if you choose to use them
Important: We only request calendar.readonly permission. We cannot
modify, create, or delete your calendar events. All calendar data is processed locally on your
device and is never sent to our servers.
4. Focus Session Data
The extension stores locally on your device:
- Focus session history (start/end times, duration)
- Blocked websites configuration
- Statistics (total sessions, focus hours, streaks)
- Break records (timestamps and justifications you provide)
This data is stored using Chrome's Storage API and remains on your device unless you explicitly
enable cloud sync (team features).
5. Chrome Storage Data
FocusGuard uses Chrome's Storage API to store your preferences and session data locally:
- chrome.storage.local: Focus session history, blocked sites list, statistics
- chrome.storage.sync: User preferences that sync across Chrome installations
This data remains on your device(s) and is not transmitted to our servers unless you enable
cloud sync features.
6. Account & Payment Information
If you purchase a subscription, we collect:
- Email address (for account creation and license delivery)
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe, we never see your card details)
- License key and subscription status
- Team membership information (if you join a team plan)
- Billing history and subscription dates
Stripe Payment Processing: All payment data is handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS
Level 1 certified payment processor. We receive only:
- Confirmation of successful payment
- Last 4 digits of your card (for your reference)
- Billing email and subscription status
We never see, store, or have access to your full card number, CVV, or PIN.

- Focus statistics remain private on your device
Cloud Storage (Firebase/Firestore)
FocusGuard uses Google Firebase/Firestore to store account and licensing data:
- users collection: Email, subscription status, trial dates, license key
- devices collection: Device fingerprint (hashed), trial usage status
- trials collection: Email-to-device mappings for anti-abuse

Why we store this data:
- Validate your subscription status across devices
- Prevent trial abuse (one trial per person/device)
- Enable team features and member management
- Provide customer support with account information
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Firebase is hosted on
Google Cloud Platform and complies with SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3, ISO 27001, and other standards.
